Eventra Bespoke — East Africa — Tanzania
The Serengeti is Africa’s most iconic safari landscape — vast, unhurried, and consistently extraordinary. The Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro, Ruaha, Selous, and Zanzibar complete one of the world’s finest journey combinations.
Africa’s Most Iconic Safari
Tanzania is the country that holds Africa’s most famous names — the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro. Each justifies its reputation. The Serengeti is vast in a way that is difficult to comprehend until you are standing inside it: two million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle in constant movement across 30,000 square kilometres of open grassland. The great migration passes through year-round, and there is no bad time to be there.
Tanzania’s southern circuit — Ruaha and Selous — remains among Africa’s most pristine and least-visited wilderness. Fewer lodges, longer drives between camps, and a rawness that the northern circuit cannot match. Zanzibar provides the natural extension: a short flight from the Serengeti to white sand, warm Indian Ocean water, and Stone Town’s UNESCO-listed streets.
What to Experience
Wildlife
The Serengeti is Africa’s most iconic safari destination — 30,000 square kilometres of open grassland that supports the greatest concentration of large mammals on earth. The great migration is a year-round event: calving season on the southern plains in January and February, the crossing of the Grumeti River in June and July, and the famous Mara River crossing in the north from August to October. Eventra places clients in private mobile camps that follow the migration, and in the fixed-camp northern Serengeti properties with direct river access during the crossing season.
Landscape
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera — a self-contained ecosystem of extraordinary density. The crater floor supports an estimated 25,000 large animals including all of the Big Five, dense lion prides, and one of Africa’s last remaining populations of black rhino. The views from the crater rim at dawn — mist rising from the floor below — are among Africa’s most memorable. Game drives descend into the crater for the day, with crater-rim lodges providing the best elevated perspective over the landscape.
Wilderness
Tanzania’s southern parks represent Africa as it was before mass tourism. Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest, with elephant herds, lion, wild dog, and cheetah across a landscape of baobabs and seasonal rivers. Selous — now part of the Nyerere National Park — is one of Africa’s largest protected areas, with boat safaris on the Rufiji River offering a wildlife perspective impossible elsewhere. The southern circuit attracts clients who have done the north and want more — more space, fewer vehicles, greater remoteness.
Island Extension
A Tanzania safari naturally extends in two directions. Zanzibar — a short charter flight from any Serengeti airstrip — provides the beach ending that closes the journey perfectly: Stone Town’s UNESCO-listed old quarter, spice tours, white sand east coast beaches, and world-class diving on reefs that see a fraction of the pressure of comparable Indian Ocean destinations. Alternatively, Kilimanjaro — Africa’s highest peak — offers a seven-day summit experience on the Lemosho or Machame routes for those for whom a Tanzania journey means something more physically demanding.
