Chief's Camp.
The Predator Capital
of Africa.

Chief's Island · Moremi Game Reserve

There are places in Africa where the wildlife comes to you.

Chief's Camp is one of them. Situated on Chief's Island — the largest landmass in the Okavango Delta, set within the Moremi Game Reserve — this is a lodge that earns its reputation quietly. Twelve thatched bush pavilions, each positioned to face the northern floodplain. A camp so well integrated into the jackalberry woodland that game passes through without alarm. The Delta beyond the deck is not a backdrop. It is the reason you are here.

The Setting

The Setting

Chief's Island sits at the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve — a private concession that carries the unofficial title of predator capital of Africa for good reason. Lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, and hyena operate in numbers that make sightings not a matter of luck but of patience. The Big Five are resident. White rhino — found nowhere else in Botswana — have been reintroduced to the concession.

When the Angolan floodwaters arrive each year, the island transforms — waterways open, mokoro excursions become possible, and the landscape shifts from dry savannah to a labyrinth of lily-filled channels.

The Experience

The Experience

Morning and afternoon game drives run in open 4x4 vehicles, led by guides whose knowledge of this concession runs deep. Seasonal mokoro excursions — the traditional dugout canoe of the Delta — offer a different dimension entirely: water level, close, quiet. Helicopter flights over the Delta are available for those who want to understand its true scale.

The main lodge — split-level, facing the floodplain — houses a bar, library, dining area and swimming pool on the lower deck. A spa offers treatments after the day's game viewing. The Geoffrey Kent Suite provides a private camp-within-a-camp experience — exclusive vehicle, private guide, private boma, personal housekeeper — for those for whom completely private is the only option.
